04 - Puerto Rico to Maine

Namani in Space - New Photos and Videos

While we're still waiting for an engine repair (which will hopefully be completed tomorrow), we have time to upload some new material - including the photo above from our visit to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. The new album in the photo gallery (see link on the right) is called "Puerto Rico to Florida".

Videos: The first one is Nicky's on-board commentary en-route to the Turks and Caicos:

Arrival in the US of A

After a beautiful Gulf Stream crossing last night (up to 9+ kn in light winds on very settled seas) we arrived in Harbor Town Marina, Fort Pierce, Florida today. Bill will head back home to D.C. tomorrow and we'll spend a quick visit to Nicky's cousin Pearl across the Floriday peninsula. We had some of the nicest sailing since starting this trip between the Turks & Caicos and here (despite some becalmed/motoring periods) and very much enjoyed sailing with Bill. Now we have to get an engine repair done before we head further up the coast - a story for another post ...

Pit Stop

After 48 hrs of great sailing through the Bahamas we're now tied up on Grand Bahama Island on Port Lucaya for one night before leaving for Florida tomorrow. Exact destination in Florida will depend on wind and Gulf Stream - either Fort Pierce or Cape Caneveral.

Plans keep changing...

Hello from underway again, this time about 15 nm SE of Great Abaco Island in the NW Bahamas at 10 pm local time ... the dreaded cold front passed us this morning between 4 and 5 am after a train of scattered thunder storms had passed just north of us... after the wind suddenly clocked about 40 degrees into the NNW all of the sudden the air became cool and dry - we're almost back in temperate latitudes... Bill makes fun of us now for feeling cold in airs of about 25 deg Celsius - we'll get used to it eventually...

Almost there...

3 am and about 100 nm to go to Spanish Cay in the Abacos (NW Bahamas), where we plan to make a (hopefully brief) pit stop to top-up diesel... the cold front seems to pass through just north of us and we're having very nice sailing conditions, close reaching under starry skies... all is well aboard - stay tuned for further updates

Going West

We're under way again, going WNW towards the NW Bahamas where we hope to arrive sometime Wednesday or Thursday... current position is 22-10N 071-49W ... looking at the weather forecasts we're definitely glad we did not go via Bermuda as the low pressure systems and associated fronts still come off the US east coast in quick succession ... all is well aboard - stay tuned for further updates ...

Pit Stop

Arrived off Grand Turk Island this morning... the wind did pick up in the end so we got to at least enjoy a few hours of nice sailing. We will likely stay here for two nights before moving on towards North Carolina (wind and weather will dictate whether direct or via the Bahamas). All is well aboard, stay tuned...

Under way again

Left Puerto Rico yesterday afternoon and enjoyed a good afternoon and night of sailing on a beam/broad reach between 6 and 7 kn. Now the wind has died and we are motoring. Bill joined us on Saturday in Puerto Rico and before leaving the marina on Sunday we enjoyed a very nice evening trip to a Lagoon with lots of bio-luminescence. Quite an awesome sight to swim in there. Now we're hoping for the wind to pick again. Current position is 19-57.7N 067-43.7W, all is well aboard - stay tuned...
